Large 3' Vintage Star of David Carved Oak Coffer Ottoman Blanket Chest Trunk Box

  

Collection from Inwardleigh, nr Okehampton, Devon. This is for a Large Vintage Carved Oak Coffer/Blanket Chest which is just over 3' across and just over 2' 6 high.

Lovely piece with a "Star of David" design deeply carved to the lid. Appears to be in oak with oak veneer panels and most likely dates from the earlier part of last century. The base is lined with a newspaper dated 1954 so most likely pre-dates that. Stands on turned wood legs, panels with beaded edging, has original lock and metal keyhole surround but no key.

Lovely plank style oak lid with rounded edges to 3 sides and central deep carved "Star of David" design which is about 25cm across. Lid opens on 3 sturdy brass hinges, it has a metal retainer to one side but this is damaged and not connected.

Minor marks and signs of age and use, very small section of beading missing to the back of the left side panel and the back left leg appears to have been repaired at some point but very well done and only visible on very close inspection - See Photos - overall, a lovely sturdy period piece in good Vintage condition. 94.5cm x 51.5cm and just over 78cm high.
