Antique English 19th Century Period Piece. Large Original Scumble Painted & Sign Written Estate Made Solid Pine Equestrian Polo Stud Farm Kit Trunk, circa 1840's.
Blanket Box Storage Chest We are delighted to offer this gorgeous & really quite impressive large antique trunk. This is a genuine mid 19th Century survivor in original scumble paint finish with hand applied black sign written front detail, that reads' L. English estate made chest of solid pine wood r eclaimed from an equestrian Polo Club stud farm in deepest Hertfordshire.
It retains it's original iron forged swing handles at each end, original brass inset front catches & orignal brass back hinges. Brass hoop ring handle to front. Original internally painted a pastel turquoise blue & fitted with a fragrant herb box compartment to the inner right side, often inaccurately termed a candle box. Heavy weight chest & dove tail joint construction. It's had some historic repairs & sadly no internal lock. The patination on this impressive pine chest is to die for. Lots of paint wear, dinks, scuffs & age related wood splits all of which just adds to it's antique charm. It remains in good strong usable solid condition.
A deep amber gold & tawny brown only achieved over many many years. It's been properly cleaned inside & out, waxed & inner surface sealed so is now ready to use, love & enjoyed once more. It's construction & design is typical of it's mid 19th Century period & would date nicely to circa 1840's.
It would make for a fabulous storage blanket box or window seat & would best suit the larger size country home. Overall a fabulously rare survivor of an antique English Polo trunk.
