Edwardian Blanket Box / Travel Trunk. This really is a travel trunk with a bit of history. So this trunk travel from Glasgow to New York and into Pennsylvanian then years later traveled back to Bournemouth in Dorset!
There is one other label, this is on the back and bears'Pope & Sons Hammersmith Golughowski'. Pope & Sons were an auctioneers/salvage and storage company operating in London and moved from Hammersmith prior to the Hammersmith flyover being built. This being the case there are a few nicks and scratches to it and it had been painted. The trunk is what I believe to be made of Rosewood, this is clearly visible when you look inside the trunk, though the outside does look a bit oaky? There is a candle box section and the hinges are worn but strong.
There is a key but although it does turn in the lock, the lock no longer works, possibly with a bit of oil etc it might work again? The outside has a wonderful weathered feel, there are several nicks to the edges and on one side there is a small damaged section but this doesn't go all the way through. Both carry handles are still present and holds well. Due to the size it would make a fantastic coffee table, with plenty of storage space or a blanket box in a bay window? Please study the photos carefully as these for a major part of the overall condition.
